Brown v. Green Algae

Can anyone explain to me the differnece (besides the obvious) between green algae and brown algae. I have a 10g and recently upgraded lighting (96w quad), and a week later was dealing with brown algae. I countered with pulling back on the number of hours of lighting, and bumping up on the cleanup crew (an emerald crab), also with finding an RO/DI kiosk for my top off.........but I came home on Friday to find green algae building on the tank (????). Can anyone shed some light on the situation in my tank?

Newly cycled? It's normal to have the algae, make sure you have good water circulation and snails. It will pass.
Good thing for mag floats ehh?

No on the cycle--it's been up for about 8 mos now......although the intensity of the lights I got I'm sure contributed to the outbreak.
