I'm not a regular poster here, but thought I would/should post this, while it's still fresh.
Background: I worked for a LFS for many years in the 60s & 70s (I started in 7th grade, and stayed thru college), and since then I've always had fish. I'm a biologist by education, but I've never used the degree! I had SW up until about 20 years ago, and FW since. I've had this 55G set up for about 2-1/2 years, and I've tried a BTA that lasted about 3 months. I've sinced changed to RO/DI water (I WONDERED why keeping nitrates down was so hard!) and as the guys at the LFS know, I'm a water-changin'-fool. I change 1 or 2 5 gallon buckets every week to 10 days (salt is cheap, fish, expensive). I bought this RBTA about 2 months ago, and he's been doing well. I feed him about every 2-3 days, a 3/4x3/4 chunk of squid or mysis. I have compact lights (Coralife w/ mixed bulbs).
Yesterday afternoon/last night I decided to do a bigger water change. I'd missed the last one, and it had been over 2 weeks. So, I siphoned 3 buckets out (about 13, 14 gallons). This takes my RO/DI system a while to generate this much water (about 2.5 gph), so it takes a while to refill the tank. As well, the water is a little cooler (about 75, I'd guess) than the tank (about 81, 82), so I put it back in 1 bucket at a time, over about 5 hours. I just checked the specific gravity, and it's 1.023 - which is lower than it was before the change, at 1.024. I finished the change about 10:30 last night, and the lights go off about 11:30 (the tank is in my office - I work from home - and the lights are on about 13 hours per day - they come on at 10:30 in the am, and have light from a window until then).
This morning at about 9:15 I got a cup of coffee, and noticed the anemone had moved about 4 inches (he had a place just below a power head he's been at for almost all the time I've had him). At 10:15 I was packing up to leave, and looked over and WOW! He had wrapped himself around the rock and almost completely torn himself in 2!
Both sides are now inflated (3pm) and while ragged, appear ok - for now anyway! Sorry for the poor pictures, but I was bolting out of the house, late for an appointment.
