I have tried picking off the bubble alage... it didn't work! I have tried getting emerald crabs to eat the bubble alage..... it didn't work. I have tried praying.....it didn't work. Is there anything else that I can possibly do to get rid of this stuff. It seems to be spreading and I am getting worried! :help: :help:

You are having some sort of nutrient control problem in your tank. This is the reason why the algae is spreading. You should begin by identifying the source of the excess nutrients. It could be overfeeding, overstocked aquarium, or even high nitrates. Reduce your feeding and light schedule; also do a series of water changes over the next 1-2 weeks. Give us some specs on your tank and the water quality. How old are your light bulbs?

Less food & less light = less algae. Dont feed for a few days. Lessen the light by a few hours and monitor the water. Algie will only grow where it gets its food.

bubble algea looks like dark green marbles which if bursted during removal will spread like wild fire. I agree there has to be something providing food for teh algea either nitrates phosphates , lighting . POst you test results and water maintence program you currently are doing and maybe we might be able to narrow it down.

i have these 2 bubbles that have been in my tank so long they are covered in coraline algea now....ive been afraid to try and remove them and emeralds wont touch them. They havent grown any so ive kinda left them alone, been about 4 months now. Im treating them like moles, if they change then they are coming out pronto

If they are covered in coralline algae, then I’m sure the bubble algae is gone. It's rare that coralline will thrive and out grow the nuisance algae. I would leave it alone unless you can see the green bubbles through the coralline. They best way to remove them is to pick them off of the rock while hold a gravel vacuum hose near by incase it burst.

theres def bubble agea underneath it. The coraline grew so quick in my tank it seriously looks like a barbie dream house with pink and purple everywhere, i never got the cool red and orange colors, not even any green coraline. I think i might try and get the bubbles out so i wont have to keep an eye on them anymore

Get a refugium. The problem is not the removal of the bubbles but the removal of the bubble's food. If you were to get rid of their food they will stop spreading. Somehow you have too much nutrients in your tank. A Refugium with macro will eat up most of the bubbles food suply causing them to stop spreading and therefore making it much easier to get rid of. Just my opinion.

A foxface which is a kind of fish would take care of the problem. I have one and it takes on the bubble algae like it is candy

sjohnny8,
You have alot of ways to take care of this issue:
Get another fish, Get a refugium or stop feeding the tank.
Getting a fish that eats the algae while taking care of the algae adds to the nutrient issue. It fixes the issue without fixing the problem.
Get a refugium will take the nutrients out of the water thus fixing the problem of excess nutrients by removing them. But it does not address the cause. But it does work well cuz it creates a balance.
Figure out why you have too many nutrients in the first place. Over feeding? overpopulation? ... Then you wont need to compensate for the problem cua it will be gone.
First treats the symptom. Second is a treatment, third is a cure.

could also be a lighting issue. What type of lights are you using and how old are the bulbs? Any direct sunlight and are you using tap water? These are some questions that can aid you in figuring out whats causing these things to grow.
