bubble tip anemone

i have this bubble that is small. since i've had it it has not come out all the way. it moved to under a rock and it won't let it's tentacles all the way out. is there something i'm doing wrong? the waters fine except the ph is only 8.0...i have compact lights with at least 3 watts per gallon.

How long has the tank been setup? I lost two very small one's early on. Waited about 8 months and then had no problems.

tanks been up for at least a year and a half. when i first set it up i used the water, rock, and sand from my large tank that was setup for 4 years.

Well, scratch that from the list of possiblilities. Did you just get the bubble?

no i've had it for about 2 months give or take a month. it eats and everything, it just stays very very small.

how is it's color, brownish tint or turning white ??? white not good , brownish color means it's healthy. my haddoni carpet will go behind the rock work for a month at a time then decides to come back out. but even with a almost 18" carpet that are known to eat fish he hasn't gotten Monster the Vlamingii tang yet.
. if your bta is eating and not getting any smaller then is it possible you moved some rocks or a power head around ??? they really don't like flow changes to much. not to get off you topic but have you fragged that monti yet ??? or are you still breaking pieces off and throwing them in the trash ???

it's brownish/white...so it's not so much white but also not so much brown. that's funny that you mention flow change cause my powerhead recently stopped working about a month ago. its funny that you mention the montipora cause i havn't had to frag it since i put my valentini puffer in there hah. i can frag a piece though if you want one. also glad to hear that the vlamingi is doin real well. i miss him but i don't miss feeding him haha.

imo your pc lights are not helping and watts per gal is no good because 3w of mh to 3w of pc are not comparable it par you need

found out the problem...i heard a while ago that if you use carbon on reef tanks that it takes away certain essential things needed in a reef tank so i stopped using it. although my corals thrived my anemone did not. about a week ago i decided to throw a filter in my other filter which is a emperor 280 which also has carbon in it. less than a week later the anemone has doubled in size and its color is returning. as for the corals, their color has become more vibrant. i am keeping the carbon. what i was using to filter the tank was an aquaclear filter rated for up to 50 gallons and the tank is only a 29 gallon. so now i have the aquaclear and the emperor filtering the tank with carbon.

You may have provided a band aid for the time being. All seems well, however your lighting is severely lacking and your anemone is not going to thrive long term. JMO

Especially if you say it has a whitish tint to it.

its color is returning to normal....and even though it may not matter for your opinions i meant its 4 watts per gallon

Watts/gallon is not an accurate measurement. As mentioned, 3watt/gallon of PC is not comparable to 3watts/gallon of metal halide or T5ho. Lighting systems have different intensities and produce a different amount of lumens per watt.
Not to say that it's impossible to keep a BTA under PC, but it doesn't always happen.
