Bubbles from filter

I have a 37g tank and am running 2 Emperor 280s and Octopus 100 skimmer.
I have lots of super small bubbles in the tank below where the larger bubbles are created when the water from the filter hits the water. (These bubbles are smaller than microbubbles ive seen posted in skimemr threads) Im positive these are form the filter and not the skimmer.
Is there anything I can do to minimize/rid the bubbles? You can see the bubbles "cloud" the clarity of the tank.

not only is that not attractive but can also harm corals as the bubbles all accumulate on the tissue causing irritation. not a huge problem but can happen.
your best bet is to create a water level high enough to that the filter is flowing smothly direct to the water and not not pouring/splashing
If you can not bring the water up to the filter you can also create a "slide" by attaching some plastic to your filter that will extend the outlet to the water line.
you can also reduce the flow running through the filter which would slow the return rate causing less aggitation at the surface which would lessen the bubbles.
also removing the biowheels will help with this problem ALOT. the spray bars that spin the wheels is what is causing your problem
You can add filter floss to the outlet of the filter which would filter out alot/most of the bubbles.
you best bet is to buy a over flow and put the filter in a sump, or even better yet remove the filter all together. your live sand skimmer and live rock will handle the load.
as you can see there are TONs of options. you just need to figure out whats best for your situation. I for one would take 50 bucks and do the last one. it is the best upgrade for that tank at this point

Oceana,
Thanks for the reply.
Do you or does anyone else recommend another HOB filter other than the Emperor 280? I have 2 of them running on my 37g along with an octo 100 skimmer. Does anyone have the same experience using these Emperor filters?
Instead, can I use one filter on the 37g (w/skimmer) and one on the 29g Im planning to setup?
I got an Emperor 400 with the 29g I bought and am afraid it might cause the same bubble problems when I get it up and running.

any of the ones with a biowheel will have a spray bar which will have the same effect. if you really want to use that type of filter your best bet is to use a canister filter. that will fix your problem

I have a 29 gal. with the Emporer 400 on it and the micro bubbles are there, but minimal. I had a 37 gal. too with a Emporer 280 on the back and never had a problem like your having, this is just a guess but I'm thinking most of those bubbles are comming from the protein skimmer.
