Bubbles from hang on

ok so i modified a hang on filter to house LR, magroves and hopefully pods.. however the water flowing back into the tank ofcourse causes bubbles.. and my stupid chromis's think its food. I need to eliminate the bubbles but i dont want to use a filter becuase it will catch the pods... any ideas?

Im not really familiar with hang-ons but does the water go directly from the filter to the tank or does it splash into it? (have the picture in my head but cant really get it into words for you)

there's about 1" between the water level of the tank and where the water comes from the hang on.
