Micro-bubbles can become stuck in the gills, causing irritation, leading to stress, increasing susceptibility to disease.

OleMiss is correct...I think you may have misunderstood..
Water agitation is good on the top surface to oxygenate the tank, with power heads to create a current, making a little ocean with waves for saltwater.
Bubbles are only good for freshwater.

so just break the surface of the water a little bit as long as it doesn't make microbubbles? i have a powerhead with a filter on it. sometimes it shoots out little bubbles. why is this? is this going to be a problem??

Yes..you don't want it shooting tiny bubbles. Why do you have a filter on it?

UMM why not a filter or why no bubbles?
Why not bubbles...read OleMiss' post
Why not a filter...it’s causing the power head to shoot bubbles.
A corse filter can be placed on a power head to keep an anemone from being sucked up. It is not enough of a filter to inhibit the water flow and cause bubbles.
Keeping a critter from being sucked up is he only reaon I know of to put a filter on a power head.

When the filter gets clogged it has to work extra hard to push the water through, the force causes bubbles.
