build it yourself fuge/sump

I would like to start a fuge/sump for my 20 gal. Does anyone have any idea where I can buy a small one? I have seen lots for larger tanks, but I was told I could build it myself. If so, how?

I think there may be a couple of options for you. You could take like a ten gallon tank and make that into a sump/refugium. Since it would be a small tank I myself wouldnt put any baffles in there. I would put some live rock rubble in there and have your return pump on one end with a mesh screen around it so no plants get sucked onto it.
Another option depending on what filtration you currently have? Would be to just go with a HOB refugium. Probably would be a lot cheaper in the end and wouldnt take up as much room.

what are baffles? I have a Bio Wheel that does 150gal. per hour circulation. I have 20lbs LS, 12lbs LR, and 1.5lbs base rock. and two small bio balls that float around the top of my tank. what is an HOB??

Baffles are dividers that would divide the tank into sections.
HOB stands for Hang on back.
(Which is what your Bio-wheel is actually)
So the only option would be another small tank then really. What are you keeping in the 20G? If having a lot of corals, anenomes and such then would be worth having the refugium. If not then it may be a lot of work to get going.

I have 2 perc. clowns, and 2 blue damsels. 1 emerald crab, 10 or so blue leg hermits, 6 or so Nassairus(sp) snails, and 1 turbo snail who still won't come out of his shell. I'd like to keep some corals eventually, but that is still about 3 months away. I do have a coralife light, and have been keeping my calcium at over 400, so my tank will be ready when it get them.

go to melevsreef dot com for some DIY (do it yourself) fuge ideas.
The HOB might be the best choice for you.
