Building a sump for the first time for a new 90g reef setup and need some opinions

I am currently building out a new 90g reef tank and attempting to set up a 30g sump. The 90g is drilled the 30g is not. My original thought was 3 chambers seperated by baffles.
The first section would have a sock that the intake is going into, a Aqua C 180 Skimmer on a stand built from pvc pipe (should I drill holes in the pipe to promote flow?) and 2 TLF reactors one with Carbon and 1 with Phosban.
The second chamber was going to be pourous rock (Seachem Matrix).
The Third chamber would be the return.
Here are my questions

  • I have been reading that the pourous rock isn't necessary and in some cases could be problematic. I was hoping to avoid a Fuge because I didn't want to run a light in the sump but have been reading that they are very beneficial. Do you guys see a FUGE as necessary?

  • If I do go with a FUGE is the second chamber viable? I have read that you want a lower flow (200-400 gph) through a FUGE and the second chamer would be pulling 800-900. Would it be better to move the return to the second chamber and the FUGE to the 3rd? IF I move it to the third should I just let the flow control itself or completely seal off the chamber and use two maxi-jet 400's to move water in and out?
What type of lighting would be needed for the FUGE?
Does anyone know of an instructional thread to set up a FUGE? I have done a search and found pieces but nothing that tells me what I need. I am not sure what to even keep in a FUGE.
Thank you in advance for any help!

Most info you need is over my head...but you only need a light on a refugium if you have macroalgae in there otherwise you don't.

Ok really confused now :) I thought the main point was the macroalgae I need to read up on this. Anyone know good references out there on the building, maintaining , and purpose of a refugium

First chamber put the overflow, skimmer, sock, carbon, and phosphate removing
Second chamber put the return pump
Third put the Fuge
You will have live rock in the DT so you don't need it down in the Fuge
Seal off the fuge and run water from eather the return or the overflow line with a ball valve to control the flow throught it
Any light that will grow algae will work
Put a bubble trap between the first and second chamber

Thank you GeoJ.
So set it up in a sealed off 3rd section? Is it best to bring the water in before the skimmer (overflow) or after (return). I am also thinking of doing 1 of two things
1. Set up a another 20-30g tank and split it in half. Using the 1st half as a refugium and the second as a quarantine tank. As long as there is no mixing there shouldn't be an issue right? This way i could put one light over the whole tank and use it for both
2. get the large CPR hang on the back refugium and hang it on the sump

The fuge will flow into the return you can use a bulkhead or a baffle ether works
If you have and over sized pump why not use the extra flow to feed the fuge
I like some distance between my QT and DT
