building a sump

Im building my first sump its 20 gal i dont have a protein skimmer yet but i was wondering if i needed it to begin my build do i need its measurements? (i feel dumb asking this buut ya know.... ) i feel like i do need it but i just wanna start building already haha.

also any cheap recommendations for skimmer??

Definitely decide on a skimmer first. Their foot prints are bigger than you'd think.
Look into Skimz skimmers. Thier monster mini is supposed to be pretty good and very reasonably priced. I was going to get one but they were on back order when I needed one so I bought the reef octopus 100.

Welcome to the forum, seaqueen. There are no dumb questions... only dumb answers! LOL! Skimmer dimensions is step #1 of the project, so as suggested, decide on the skimmer first. Always overbuild, so you have a little wiggle room. It's better to have too much space than not enough...
