Building my own lighting fixtures!

Ok after alot of thinking I decided that I want to build my own light fixture.
what I want to do is build a canopy that stands on top of my 150g tank. Thats easy saidd than done because I dont know where to start. Here is a drawning that I made please I need as much help as possible, all the help is highly appreciated.

I have been wanting a MH fixture for a long time, but since it will be a wood canopy I think T5s(6 bulbs) will be better? why only two fans, wouldnt the heat burn the wood?

If you're going with T5, then you're going to want more than 6 bulbs. I'd go with two rows of 36" lamps versus one row of 60" lamps. If you don't want to overdrive them then 14-16 or so would be enough. If you were going to overdrive them then 10-12 would work.
I'd have at least four fans. Two on each end blowing hot air out, and maybe one or two on top doing to same.
