It is a 3/4" maple wood already sanded etc, but will sand more...
I think we are going to try and match the stand as close as possible so it will be a natural color stain (that's what it is called). And just polyurethane to seal it. Also plan on painting the inside white. It is for a 55g btw...
Thanks

well we are putting reflectors inside it and it just needs to be sealed, but I might paint it silver anyways, it would help a little prolly...
thanks,

I think ... I want one!
There are no stores in town that carry good hoods and I don't have the right tools to make one on my own :(

I kinda thought white would too, but I don't know for sure?
All you need is a table saw, a jigsaw, hammer, and a screwdriver. Check the pawn shop or something, or even buy some cheap stuff at wal-mart, that's what our's is. It's fun building your own, and cheaper.

lol... hey kpk is there any reason why you have it open twards the inside.. wont that get in the way of the lights?

skirbby I really don't know y i just like it that way. you don't have the big door in your face, or a big door to have to hold up. this way you can just easily stick your hand in and close when you take your arm out. the light would get in the way if you opened it up high enough, but to get your arm in it would only have you go in about 4-5" or so, and with such a tall canopy it shouldn't come close. it's really just easier getting in and out of the tank, imo

good point..wouldnt the door block out light though and make it hard to see what your grabbing for? i do agree its nice to not have it in your face

well thats a good point too, but with mh, or any bright light I don't think it would completely cover the ligth, but would definitly make it dimmer. plus the door shouldn't got that far over the light...
