Built in overflow filter options?

I am setting up my second tank. It is a 65 gallon aquarium with a built in corner overflow. Right now i have fresh water circulating in it because i had been testing all of my plumbing for any leaks. The sump is in the basement and the water drain into the overflow is extremely loud. My issues is that I can not find the sponge filters that I have in my other tank (pic below) anywhere. I know I could build my own PVC drain to raise the water level in the overflow but the sump I have for this tank does not have a good place to put a sock filter or mesh to collect large debris. I am wondering if anyone knows where I can find the stand pipe ( I have seen the sponges a few places. My other thought was to thread a strainer into the bulkhead and fill the overflow with bio balls. Any thoughts/help are appreciated.

The easiest way to quiet it would be to raise the stand pipe to minimize the water drop from the overflow......I would check around online, but I can't post links, but you should be able to find those round filters a few places.....

Ya i have seen those and could easily build one myself but I am concerned with the filtration aspect. I like those sponges picking up the large debris and there is not a chamber in the sump that I have for this tank to put a filter sock or some of that blue mesh filter. Would the bioballs pick up the large debris. I have read that they are nitrate factories if they are submerged in water but what if the water flowed over them in the overflow box. I will have a deep sand bed and plenty of live rock in this tanks as well so I don't feel I need the bio balls but think they could replace that sponge in the picture.

The sponges are nice, but truly they need to be cleaned frequently and I'm not talking weekly or bi weekly, and think it would be easier to move that sort of thing to the sump if you'd want to employ some type of mechanical filtration.

This might be great thinking in your mind....but without being properly maintained a DSB will offer little if let run amuck......Stuffing a tank with LR as well is pointless and a hindrance IMO as well......
