bulging eyes

Help!
My fish, who was fine yesterday now has eyes that are sticking out about 1/4 of an inch from its head. They look swollen.
I need to know what to do.
I think, I remember reading an article a few years ago, saying the eyes needed to be pricked to relieve the pressure. Does anyone know if that is true????
He looks terrible and is not doing well.
Any feedback is appreciated.

Could be a multitude of things, parasitic, viral or bad water conditions. I have never heard of pricking the eye to releive the pressure and would definately not do that. Check your nitrogen cycle readings first and if they are all zero then I dont think there is much you can to do.

I remember my LFSguy tell me about this.He called it "POPEYE". It came up when we were talking about sainity. I had mine set at .23,He listed this as one of many problems that can occure from high readings.I keep mine at .19 now.Tell us about your tank. Water readings,gallons,filteration,how many and what fish. This info may help....STEVE

I agree with Mr. Salty that it is probably Popeye. This is caused by a deficiency in the fish's diet. I would put the fish in a hospital tank (10 gal would work). Low lighting and 80 degree temp. with good aeration. I've used Maracyn & Maracyn II for this disease for 10 days. Also added "Boyd's Vita-Chem" to the water and soaked the food with it. The fishes eye will slowly go back into the socket in about 10days-2weeks. Good luck.

Put in a hiding place like a cave built with rock, low lighting and 80 degree temp. with good aeration. Use some of the water from the main tank.
