butterflies kill live rock?

i visited a lfs tonight and went over the fish list i want to add to my tank. he said butterfly fish would destroy my live rock. is this true??

wont kill the rock, but will probably eat much of the live things on it. depending on the type and waht all is on the rock.

They'll scavange on it. But don't tangs and angels do that as well?

tangs and some angels scavenge vegetation. angels also scavenge inverts and corals and such as well.

I would agree it is a trade off. I would prefer to see butterflyfish in a system with LR, than in a system without. Many fish eat the critters in the LR, but I wouldn't consider this necessarily 'killing' the LR, for reasons mentioned in the other thread :)
Besides, I don't know about the advice of this ya-who? posting above me LOL ;) :D :p (Good to still see you! :D :) )
