I have a copperband butterfly fish and it is fine and then the other day i looked at him and there was a white patch on his right side. i ignored it because sometimes they scrap themselves aginst the rock when they are swimmimg by. Then the next day i looked at him and the is a little gash where the patch was. the butterfly swims fine he eats and he is acting like he always does. any suggestions of what this is? PLEASE post me back even if you are not sure!

Is it a wound from harrassment from another tankmate? Can't think of anything else it could be.
What size tank do you have, what's in it, and when did get the butterfly? Have you added any fish lately? Crabs?

I have a 80 gallon tank with 1 powder brown tang, 1 blue tang, 1 yellow eyed tang, 1 butterfly, 1 flame angle, 1 clown, 1 royal gramma, 1 goby, 1 blenny, 6 yellow tail damsels, 2 sunburst anthias. I have 2 emrald crabs and have not addad any fish for a while. I have noticed that the powder brown tang is very agresive toward new fish. all my levels are fine exept the nitrate witch is at 40 ppm. I know i have alot of fish and i am going to get rid of the damsels the powder brown tang, and the yellow eyed tang. im very attached to the powder brown tang and the yellow eyed tang :( . any advice for catching the fish(mostly the damsels).

Why are you going to get rid of them if you're attached to them? LOL
Sounds like its time for tank #2!
I suggest that you spend a good deal of time over the next day or so unobtrusively watching your fish to see who the bully is. You have a lot a fish, and a lot of aggressive potential there. My guess is harrassment on the butterfly. Do you have a QT that you can setup to separate this fish?

I do not have a QT set up. why i have to get ride of them is that i have too many fish and that is contributing to the bioload and some of the coral i have isnt looking so good but they will survive. And all the post i got said im over crouding the tank. what do you think?

Bubble,
The Tangs could be, or the Damsels, what kind of Damsels are they??Both can be aggressive..
Why do you KEEP asking if you ask too many questions?
IF you can try to stop buying, then getting rid of stuff...It just stresses them out more..Will your LFS take these fish back?? I know that mine does, especially injured fish(From bites and nipping) and will keep them forever...they become the fishstore fish, not for sale...Maybe yours will do that..Im surprised that you have So many tanks and dont have a QT tank..You can get a whole setup for cheap(relatively)How long have you had the Butterfly compared to the other fish??
