Button Paly question

I have a brown button paly on a very large rock, probably 7" x 4" rock. Jambed packed with old and new paly's. Yesterday, I noticed a section of the rock had for better words released a section of paly's onto the layer below. Do they discharge members of the colony like a rock of mushrooms? Or is this the start of something to worry about? I have had this rock for about 18mo and this the first it has done this. Below is a picture of the rock, and the new cluster fell onto the barnacle below, right around the royal gramma, in the hole. They seem to be ok, but just wondering.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the rock today, and boy, it didn't take long for new paly's to take the place of the discharged ones. Talk about being pushed out of the nest!!!
