button polyp ?

I bought a baseball sized rock covered with button polyps and a soft, beige, golfball sized growth on the back that I assume has to do with the polyp. I moved it around the tank for about two weeks trying to find the correct lighting and circulation. I thought it was doing better under a rock overhang with less light.
After an 8 hour power loss three days ago the polyps have disappeared one by one. Now there are two or three visible. The entire polyps vanished into the rock.
Will they come back? Is this normal? And was I correct that they like less lighting than most corals? Thanks.

I have 4 vho in a 72 gallon. I have polyps all over my tank, near the light, and at the bottom. When my tank crashed this summer, I thought I lost all, but months later they have reappeared!? They multiply quickly so I wouldn't worry. Think about getting a battery operated bubbler to put into the tank in case power goes out. :)

I have a polyp that I later identified as a red moon coral. It was dormant as a calcareous bud on my lr for 2 weeks before it finally came out. It even still had xooanth.! I'm hoping it will reproduce soon, as I only have one of the little guys.
