I am planning on buying a reef book. I usually get books from the library, but i'm looking for a good refrence book on corals i can keep. I started looking at eighter "aquarium corals" by borneman or "corals: a quick reference guide" by Sprung (i think). I can't locate these books in the local library system so i've not read them. I know that both of these books come highly reccomended.
Also, is "Conscientious marine aquarist" a good all around book to have for an intemediate aquarist? (I've been in the hobby about two years now) Can't find this book at the library eighter. :( What book wuold be the best first book to purchace?
Thanks,

I'd say that snce you have everything set up and you're looking for more reef type info Eric Borneman's book would be a great place to start...although you can't go wrong with any of the books you've mentioned.
BTW just a little FYI I see you have a 3" DSB according to Dr. Ron you should have a minimum of 4 inches for it to function properly.

Another vote for Erics book ;) Speaking of Dr.Ron he has a pretty book out as well, The Coral Reef Aquarium. I would suggest A Practicle Guide to Corals vs. Sprung's book which is mostly eye candy, really good eye candy, but its not very helpfull for reefers other than identification. HTH

I really like "The reef aquarium" by Sprung and Delbeek, volumes 1 & 2. They are a great reference book that tells you whatever you need to know. Vol. 1 covers reef ecology, basic setup, live rock, coral diseases, hard corals and clams. Volume 2 covers soft corals, coralimorphs (mushrooms), zooanthids and anemones. They are about $60 each, but worth every penny. I like them even better than "The modern reef aquarium" by Nilsen and Fossa, which is also very good. I have only volume one of that series, but do plan to get the other ones. Actually, you can't have too many good aquarium books, so I say get them all! I usually ask for certain books for Christmas and birthdays!

Another BIG vote for Borneman. I bought his book and began using his principles about 2 months ago. My 120 reef has always been pretty good, but since I've been following his principles of husbandry I've been getting coral growth like I never had before!! I never harvested any of my corals before. One month ago I harvested some of my Xenia and Colt and am ready to do so again!! It's a pretty cool deal selling some coral BACK to the LFS for credit/trade!! Also, the growth on my acroporas is extremely gratifying. Get this book and read it!! Especially the chapter on feeding corals!! Good Luck!! :p
