buying a penguin

Now there was a bogus place online..think It was called penguin warehouse.com…
But I’ve been thinking; they need a tub of saltwater with excellent filtration; some prefer cold/temperate environments…what else is there other than there diets? Is there particular licenses you need? Any books or suggested readings?
I think it would be awesome walking down the street with a penguin…any idea’s?

i do believe they are protected... also they dont live well alone... they are flocking brids so you would have to have a bunch... not to mention the climate controlled structure you would have to build would cost a pretty penny...

the best people to contact in regards to what needs a permit and what doesnt and how to get permitted would be the deparment of inlands fisheries and wildlife for your state. thats where all legal pets are listed for your state anything thats not on the leagal list needs a permit. good luck with the penguin Idea.

Also the lighting is very important. Zoos spend thousand of dollars on the lighting just to keep them healthy. when you go to the zoo and see one with bad feathers (brownish looking) it's because of improper lighting. Usually you will only see a few of them, because the zoo got the from another location that had poor lighting. also you have to think most of them live in places where it is dark for days so you would have to simulate that kind of lighting. not to mention there diets and they live in groups. so you'd have to prepare for breeding which also means that you will need thousands of pounds of smooth and shiny rocks. the male penguin gives the female a rock that he picks out to be the nicest one he can find. the female then will either accept him or give it back. males can go through tons of rocks trying to find the right one. unless you have a few million laying around to build the proper habitat I wouldn't recomend it.

I saw this link, and it does say that...
"Currently all 17 species of penguins are legally protected from hunting and egg collecting. At least three species are considered at risk."
I'm no lawyer, but doesnt that mean you cant hunt them and you cant go collecting egg. But who says given the correct enviroment, one cant raise it.
