I Believe you can buy dry goods, but you have to pay shipping. The $79 is for live critters and shipping is free. It is cheaper than any other website were you have to pay shipping. If you don't need 70$ worth of critters see if somebody in your area wants to go in on something with you so you can meet the 79 limit. :happyfish

I wanted to buy fish from here, I though you only got a surcharge if your order was less than $79, which was fine with me. but nope, I can't afford 79+9.99+9.99 for fish, and I can't add $79 of fish at once to my tank.
In short, no you can't buy fish or inverts (and you can't mix the two-it's $79 of fish or $79 of inverts) for less than a subtotal of $79 (the surcharge and gas charge are NOT included in the $79 limit).

It doesn't make sense to buy online without making at least the min. order. Buying online has huge shipping costs, so, this site, to offer free shipping, they need to have a min. order requirement.
If you can't get more than one or two fish, which is understandable, then there are plenty of inverts to choose from. There is not a fish tank anywhere that could not use a few inverts [unless you've medicated your tank].
Anyway, that is the policy here. To offer free shipping, there is a min price. If you don't make that min, then you are going to pay for shipping like anywhere else online. And shipping livestock is not cheap.

But having to include a box charge of $9.99 and a gas surcharge of $9.99 is a quick $20 bucks more overall....Most I ever paid was about $25 bucks S & H and no box or hot/cold pack charge either, just a straight up $25 charge for my order of 1 or 20 items (live items not dry type goods) so that is not bad, but I still prefer and usuaully do shop local and spend that high end air freight for live critters on something else besides a paid shipping receipt. What has happened to the old saying things are cheaper on line....it sure doe snot apply to most places anymore espeically with boxing and handling charges etc and the extra surcharges like gas etc they are now charging.......As much as I would like a trio of sexy shrimp, I am not about to have to order sight unseen more inverts and pay all those extra costs..........so in all reality this site does not have actual free shipping......

No the 9.99 +9.99 is in addition to your $79 subtotal of fish, so you have spend at least $100 totals. And it's not really free shipping if you add in a surcharge and gas charge.

Are you saying I could order two fish and just pay shipping? because when I tried that I was told I needed a $79 subtotal. It makes sense for those of us who live in small towns and don't trust our lfs, or would you like me to buy from *****? Plus, most lfs in this area don't even have what I want, this site does.

Depending on where you live ordering from this or any site may or may not be a good deal for you. I unfortunately live far from any saltwater body of water and the fish stores in the area do not have a very good stock so ordering online can actually work out much better for me in many cases.

You can mix orders. I just decided to check to satisfy my curiousity and the minimum is $79 of total LIVESTOCK. The advice I would give anyone who buys from any place online is to limit the number of fish ordered and focus on inverts.

I CAN? Yippy! I can always use more inverts! I tried awhile back and I had two totals, one for fish and one for inverts. But I'd love to mix them. Shoot, I wish I would have known. I could have order my clowns, half the inverts I wanted, then order more inverts and another fish. then more inverts and another fish.
