Ca Chloride vs. Ca Hydroxide

Recently i was told that calcium chloride(liquid calcium) can mess with your pH if you do not dose correctly. I've heard that calcium hydroxide(kalkwasser) is a much better source of calcium and does not mess with your pH. I have both and right now i am just using my calcium hydroxide a.k.a. Kalkwasser.... Any input on which is better or more stable??

Any chemical additives have the ability to affect PH as does any additions. Kalk, will raise calcium. Most recomend to drip at night when the PH natrually drops with the lights off.

Actually kalk has a greater ability to alter PH, but is a much better source of Ca and when properly dosed at night will not cause a problem. CaCl will not effect PH as much, but it can if not used correctly. Any addition of Ca done imporperly or in excess can screw up the chemistry(PH & Alk) of your tank.
