Well my twins first birthday is coming up (The 26th) we celebrated a little early because some family members were in town, here is my first attempt at cake decorating and I pretty pleased how they turned out, and the twins sure liked them.

Those are really cute Birdy!
I've been thinking about taking a cake decorating class myself - looks like fun.
Happy Birthday to the kids!
:joy:
Did you bake those in bowls?

Those are so sweet!! Youre so craftsie!
My mother in law made my niece her first birthday cake into
a castle. She baked the "towers" in orange juice containers
and used ice cream cones to make other towers..little pink
flags on toothpicks...and so on..
it was really cute...I WISH I had a picture.
I never do homemade cakes for my kids ..I Suck!
I always call walmart and say..I want spongebob (or whoever)..Drawn with
icing...I dont care how it looks... Then I always end up with
a cake that looks like an inmate in solitary made it! LOL
You inspire me! Next Birthday..my child gets a homemade
cake! I know I can do it
Attached is the example of one of the "You don't have a spongebob kit??...well, I dont care how it looks, just draw it with icing, he wants spongebob" cakes from walmart! LOL
I can do better than this!!

My mom made a ninja turtle cake for my brother when he was young also.
Those cakes I made were super easy. you just bake them in bowls, then freeze the cakes, then they are really easy to shape and frost.

I do all this fun stuff too....
I have 3 neices and 3 nephews so that constantly keeps me baking....
Yesterday, one neice turned 11 and insisted on fodue for her birthday.... the candle in the chocolate pot looked a little funny

Good luck to all of you trying this SPORT out. Cake decorating can become time consuming and expensive (just like another hobby we may have heard of  )

always easy for my mom, just put a ton of green icing on, made it look like grass, and then put a GI Joe in the middle of it. Yeah GI Joe in the jungle!!!
Worked for at least 7 years in a row. Love ya mom!

I used to have the kids make their mom a cake on their birthday and decorate however they wanted to. I will have to find those pictures.
However this reminds me of one of my stupid stories. I was at a NASCAR race and at one of the souviner trailers they had a kit that you could make a car cake with, complete with edible decals so that it looked just like a NASCAR car. In front of the trailer were three guys with shaved heads, wife beater shirts on and tatoos all over their bodies. Not wanting to look like a wimp in front of these guys I looked at a couple of trailers and kept going back to see if they were gone. I kept coming back a couple of times and they were still there. Finally I just wanted to get to my seat so I walked up to the trailer. I heard the guy working there telling the guys in the wife beaters how they could get refills for the cake kits at the website and reuse the cake mold to make additional cakes. I bought a Dale Earnhardt Jr. cake kit.
