Calcium & cheato

I dont think so it doesnt use calcium for a skeleton use as corals do There might be something else effecting the growth though. What are your readings in the tank and how old is the tank and what lights do you have over the algae.

do you have alkalinity and magnesium tests? both of these will effect calcium levels.
as far as why the calupera isnt growing if you dont have a large bioload or excess butrients it wont grow as fast it will only use whats available.
Mike

My Chaeto wouldn't grow at all until I moved the aquarium and set up a refugium. Now it's got strong water flow and a 150wt HQI on it 12 hours a day and it's growing like a radioactive monster. Not sure if it needed more light, more flow, or both but all I changed was lighting and flow and I got a huge response.

I can't believe they like such strong lighting?? I went down instead of up on my lighting, I had the Chaeto going for over a year on 10,000k PC. The Chaeto NEVER gotten any bigger then when I got it from a friend until I change the lighting to 6500k 10w bulb. Now it's growing like mad, grew double it's size in less then a month..... :happyfish

I was surprised too. I originally set up the HQI in the sump just until I got around to buying some pcs for it. It started growing immediately though so I left it. The light is literally 5 inches from the Chaeto.
