I've never done this so bare with me.
I have a 33 gal. tank, I was doing great for a long time, then I got and algae explosion and I thought it was due to a low calcium level. I was werong my levels are around 520 ppm and I know that ain't good. I have done a 25% water change but it has had little effect.....What Do I do?

Leave it alone, I've had mine at 500 for a long time and over that on occastion. Check your alk, usually when the calcium swings high the alk will swing low, it does a yo-yo thing, part of what keeps it in balance is Magnesium so have that checked also. Mag should be in the area around 1300 to 1450 ppm. You might find that if you add alk it may precipitate a little, clot up. Ebsom salts is magnisium sulfate and you can add say a 1/2 tsp per 50 gallons every couple of weeks to help, thats $3.00 bucks for the half gallon milk carton type ebsom salts at the

or booku bucks at your LFS for a liquid suppliment. Products like B-ionic have mag suppliment already in them.
