What happens if your Ca is too high. Checked today w/ salifert and I think it's about 500. Do I need to lower it and how do I do that?

i would do a water change...This will bring your CA down. Your CA and ALK work together. You might have a low ALK with such a high CA. Just remember they work together. A 20% water change should do you right....

If it's to high,it will look like it's snowing in the tank.I
would think that if it's only at 500 it would dissipate
fairly quickly, but to lower it just do a water change.

Ok Thanks! I still don't know for sure what my alk level is. SWF.com has been out of test kits for some time now. And my LFS doesn't carry them. Anyone know of another place I can order one from?

Just about everyone in the country is out of Salifert ALK test kits...I have tried to get one. One of the online stores I spoke with said Salifert does not keep up with the demand of their product. Kinda crazy! If you find one let me know.

500ppm is not that bad. Give it a few days (stop dosing), it'll go down. For alkalinity test "fasTesT" works just fine for me.

I agree that 500ppm is probably not unreasonable. Besides it probably will come down all on its own. No need to do anything now.
