california is as messed up as new york. All these well meaning do gooders effin it up for all the hard working people. I wonder how many people lost their job to that initiative just to find out that these "scientists" made a gross and grievious error. "missed it by that much" is some how equil to 320%?

Funny how these "scientists" always over estimate pollution levels isn't it?

Instead of clearing out farmland to make new housing developments or new shopping malls, plant a few evergreen trees FFS! While we cant do much about the amazon being cut down, atleast we can control our own lands. Farming may not be as profitable as it used to be, but atleast it served a purpose.
Everyone here know that while growning corn takes up a ton of water from underneath the land, it also helps produce rain above the ground? growning corn also eats up some CO2 and replenishes some O2 into the air?
how much CO2 is scrubbed from the air in a mall parking lot? How much CO2 is scrubbed from the air in a subdivision?
PLANT A TREE!
/soapbox

By the same token how many lawns, parks and golf courses have been constructed in the aired parts of the country where there normally wouldn't be much in the way of vegetation?

Lets see, what does more scrubbing of co2, grass or trees. Hmmm I wonder? But since its farm land that is being paved over, i would imagine grass would do more co2 scrubbing than asphalt.

What was there before it was farmland? Plenty of farms in areas that were desert. Don't know about where you live but most yards, parks and golf courses I've seen have thick grass, shrubs and dare I say trees. Also the amount of forested land in the US hasn't really changed much in the last century. Not only do we no longer use wood as a heat source for the most part we also use different materials now. Also a lot more fire suppression and private managed forest so we likely have more standing trees today than we did 100 years ago.

tell that to the tons of wood pellets down at lowes, homerdepot, tractorsupply, et al. that once used to be trees. I am no tree hugger, but the point of the article was pollution by disel engines. I would imagine the majority of that pollution was CO2 gas, best way to combat that is to plant a tree or 3.

First off those pellets are made from wood wastes that used to be buried or left to rot on the forest floor. Even assuming trees were cut down to produce them they are more efficient that burning logs and even then only a fractional percentage of people depend on wood heat today when 100 years ago it was still very common.
The california regs for diesel that were passed targeted particulates and nitrous oxides, not CO2. The study was used to help pass the CO2 standards but that was propaganda uses so....
I got no issue with people wanting to plant trees for any reason, I love trees. I am a tree hugger. You grow em, cut them down and grow them again. It's a hap hap happy thing.

CARB was and IS a hus PITA for the OTR trucking industry. They are the ones that think a Dog has more right to be cool in a car than a person that trying to sleep that is going to be in charge of 80K lbs of moving truck and therefore BANNED all idling of truck engines in the state of Californa. Now they have gone after APU's and get this the Refrgaration units on the Nose of the trailers that keep the Food we eat COLD enough to eat when it is shipped. They are not the smartest bunch of IDIOTS out there. They think it is safer for the Enviroment for a truck today to get 5 MPG that when 10 years ago we got 7-8 with Less Areodynamic Trucks. Yet NOX adn Particulate Emissions were only Reduce by IIRC 50% in the last 2 Steps. So how is Burning 150% more Fuel to go the same Distance better for the freaking ENVIROMENT.

I am a former holder of a California Class A Emissions Certification. Back when I was first getting into it they could fail you for chrome valve covers on an engine, no joke.

Tell me about it. I was almost given a Ticket for having a Chrome Valve cover on my 60 Series Detroit in 2000. I was running a Test motor at the time and it was a way for my fleet to tell the 10 of us apart from the rest of the fleet. We all had 565 HP Detroit 14 Liters under the hoods when the rest of the fleet had 430/470 HP motors. Mine even had a differant program that had it sitting at 630HP and I can tell you this it was FUN spanking a Cat powered truck in the hills with that thing. Detroit however never came out with that setting Except in Marine I do not know why I was getting 9 MPG with the engine.

And people wonder why California is going broke. Their BS ripples to the rest of the country but you can't tell me that they aren't being charged higher rates than the rest of the country by trucking and construction companies.
