I seriously need to change my lfs. Do any of you know a good one in the Bay area? The closer to Palo Alto the better.
Thanks,
sam

what about the one in Hayward. also if you do a search "local fish stores in sf bay area" on the net, there is a website lists most lfs in bay area and rates its service and selection. hope this help and not against swf's rule.

there are alot of lfs in the bay..many to chose from..
this is my list:
aquarium concepts in hayward
natural life aquariums- sunnyvale,
connies-castro valley
atlantis -fremmont,
brians fish world-sj,
t&t aquariums-sj
6th ave-sf,"cheapest everything"
seascapes- mountain view
there are dozens of others some that are just walking distance from the next ones, but these are the ones that know what they are talking about. besides the one on 6th ave, they sell equipment and livestock the CHEAPEST in the bay but the quality in swf might scare you.
i drive up and down the bay alot and i probably been to all the lfs..and these are the ones that i recomend in the order listed. they all have a knowledgable owners/staff and will only sell you what you need..anyone else from the bay know a good store?????

be real careful when purchasing livestock from 6th Ave. while the owner Dave might be very knowledgable, the store is self service so you pick a net and a cup of water to buy livestock. I have seen someone netted a clown fish and decide not to buy and put it back into a freshwater tank. The workers could careless sometimes. but i agree with TRIGAHAPPYNIGERog, lots of good lfs within short distance, espcially those he mentioned.

You should also consider Tropical Paradise in San Leandro. I think it used to be setup and mantainence service and recently open to public. The store is in a warehouse. Got good selection of fishes and corals. I think the price is lower than many LFS around. I like the very large FO and a 8-foot-long reef show tanks there. :) The owner said he was setting up a large surge system near the front door. For sure he loves this hobby much more than I do.
If you happen to visit Aquarium Concept, you should definitly check out this store. Not far away. Address is 295 139th Ave, Suite B. Cross street is Washington ave.

6TH dont really care about the livestock the knowledge they give is just to sell something. i think the best time to go is when they first get the fish. you can find hundreds of dead fish everywhere. i seen the same dead fishes in the sw tank a week later.
so i fed them to the triggers. next time im gonna put the triggers in the damsel tank. sunday sales on corals and fish is the reason i listed it.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Looks like I have several to choose from.
Tried Natural Life Aquariums. The owner seems to know a lot and have a lot of experience. And he will give you great deals sometimes. He just gets upset if he thinks you have visited other lfs than his, and the following conversation about customer loyalty gets annoyning over time.
Tried Seascapes also. The owner there has a very bad attitude and no respect for some paying customers. He also rarely comes in on time at 11am, often at least 30 minutes late. But I must say he seems to know a lot about reef aquaria.
Best wishes!

i agree with the comment on the owner of seascapes. he is a smart ass. thats because he is in his twenties and thinks he knows everything. he has a variety of corals and fish but i steal supplies from his store..

I went to The Fish Tank in Sunnyvale and I was impressed. Peninsula Tropicals in San Carlos is also very good but pretty pricey. Ultimate Aquarium in San Mateo is also good. I remember Natural Life to be really shitty, this is when they were in Belmont, but I haven't seen the new Sunnyvale store, so maybe i'll check it out.

the fish tanks prices are kind of steep and they will try to convince you to buy alot of things. natural life was a good storewhen it ws in belmont. the kids that work there know alot about fresh and salts. since they moved prices went up and there are no more deals..it is just a couple of blocks away from fish tank.
