Are we talking about Echidna polyzona? If so, then I say go for it. They max out at around 70cm, which is roughly 28" and are invert eaters.

Looks like Barred and Banded are just two common names of the same species, Echidna polyzona.

I'd say you're luckly to be finding Echidna polyzona, but even tho they stay relatively small, I'd go with only one in your tank. You wouldnt only have to worry about them possibly eating smaller fish, but also with them fighting over territory.
I would also not keep any Toby family puffers with Morays. They're obnoxious little S.O.Bs and will often nip at the tails and sometimes the eyes of slower moving, bottom dwelling fish.

 my valentini is a little wuss. he won't eat anything but brocolli chunks and is still thinning out. i was hoping he'd be a good addition, but i may have to return him to the lfs.

I am done as for ever offering any professional assistance but in this case as always is making my laugh for AW2, you were told of to beware that you need to be extremely careful in your word search for the facts are, the names Banded and Barred moray eels are two very different morays.
They are both in the Indo-Pacific area and also the Banded moray grow a larger size to 32" max to were as the Barred moray grows to 28" max and neither of these eels should be contained in a 55.
Banded moray (Gymnothorax rueppellii)
Barred moray (Echidna polyzona)
Also AW2, on your comments in the other threads, you said that it is like more then luck more or less to tell the gender of a dragon moray for your remarks were that they are the same color and that only a DNA one could know for sure.
Now I told you of the dragon you have now about a year ago almost that you showed me a photo and I told you that it is a female and you on the other hand had doubts I guess on my word and because being that you were able to get a free DNA done, you done it and still the eel is female. Also, no matter who gets a DNA done on their eels, it in no way jacks up the price for the DNA was your choice.
In other words, no two dragon eels have the very same coloration or patterns.
