I need some guidenece. I have a Nikon coolpix 5400. I am looking for any suggestion on settings for this camera. I know..macro..use tri-pod...etc...but I am looking for SPECIFIC settings. This camera has more settings than I can ever figure out
..I want to take close ups of my livestock/corals. I have a 130 gallon with 1/2+ inch thick glass. Thanks

Does your camera have a function key? My Cannon does and one of the functions is aquariums. The camera automatically does the setting necessary to get the best pics.

I am not familiar with that camera but the macro setting usually works for aquarium closeups. A tripod would help. When photographing, hold the shutter down half way. The camera will adjust itself on the target and give you an 'OK' signal when focused. The camera should automatically adjust all settings for the best possible pic. If the camera cannot focus, you will not get the 'OK' signal needed and you then will have to adjust your distance or angle on your target.

I use my camera like this : Detect the white balance for tank light, Set the biggest picture size camera can take, put the camera in macro mode, put the lens against the glass, focus on the coral you wanted to take picture, take the picture. After these go on to photoshop cut the peice of from the picture you took, open new page in photoshop and paste the peice you already did cut from the picture. Its a nice macro shot ;)
Exp: ( 0 zoom in this picture )

I got it all...except...HOW do I detect the "white balance"??? I have a pretty good camera...just VERY uninformed when it comes to using the thing.
