can anenome sting the clown?

ive had my clowns for 8 months, first i didnt buy an anenome because i didnt think they needed one , theyve began to host a soft coral, "waving hand" as they call it in the petshop, it gets full but closes at night and thats where they sleep... the coral doesnt mind them all up in it but id rather them host an anenome , so i bought one... the clowns dont seem to want to look at it, one rubbed against it and it looked like it stung it? is this possible, what can i do to get them to host the anenome now, not the coral??? will they ever want it? help

what type of anemone? not all anemones will host

well, i dunno kno the name maybe the pink tip but its white, and there really isnt pink tips... but there was a tomato clown in the tank when i bought it and it was all up in it..so?

Yes, anemones can sting clowns that have not hosted an anemone for some length of time. I've had a true perc check out an anemone for the first time and it left a few visible marks on her body (which healed quickly.) But, if your clown doesn't want an anemone, there's really nothing you can do to make it happen. Some clowns don't host anything at all, or they host power-heads, or even clams. The perc I mentioned earlier, as well as her companion, preferred to live in a Colt Coral. Who am I to tell them any different?? I was glad they hosted anything at all, as my previous pair lived behind a power-head.

im their master! i decide who they host haha no, i jus wanted the classic, dream of a clown and his stinging friend but we'll see maybe they'll decide to like it sometime, we;ll see thanks though;;.

Sounds like a Condylactis species and if so, they are not a hosting type anemone and very possible that it stunge the clown. Possible that it may even eat it.
You need to research anemones if you want one for the clowns. They require special lighting and many issues with them that need to be considered.

I 've read that occasionally the Condy anemones will host but it is rare.

Condys are more weeds than anything.
