Can any coral withstand an anenome?

I have a small tank and have a blank ledge that would be perfect for another coral but the LTA sometimes pokes around down there and it would get stung. I was thinking maybe mushrooms since they are related. Any opinions?

Right now my BTA is touching my frogspawn and has before. Anemones don't sting corals, they just sting fish. The only anemone that stings other corals is a tube anemone. You are free to put in any corals you like!

From my experience my LTA stung my xenia, my sun polyps, and my candycane.

What do you mean? I'm pretty sure LTA does not sting anemones. Are you sure it was because of your anemone? I don't know I may be wrong, ask other people and see what they say.

It was the only thing that could touch them.

Well then! Maybe long tentacle does sting! But I'm positive that bulb tentacle doesn't. But just incase you might want to post a thread about if long tentacles can sting or not, just to see what other people think. If you don't please tell me, cause now I'm really interested in knowing, this and I will write the thread if you don't.

They will sting everything, believe me. They can wreak havoc on a tank when they decide to "walk"(find a new spot), and they all will do this, not just LTA or BTA, they all do sting corals and fish, some can tolerate it a little better than most, and I would say those would be "shrooms". Good luck.

I know they will wipe out everything, I was just saying that if anything is going to make it, it would probably be a Mushroom. Have a good weekend guys.

You're experiences seem to be pretty abnormal. Anemones are powerful and often aggresive. Most (if not all) are quite capable of stunting, damaging, or even killing corals.
On a side note, tube anemones (which aren't actually true anemones) are amongst the less-powerful stingers. Some research even puts them significantly below aiptasia sp.

There are a few things that might manage to survive, but they will likely be quite stressed at the very best. Remember, too, that anemones can roam around the tank and sting corals that might initially be out of their reach.
I'd be concerned for the long-term health of an LTA in a smaller aquarium as it is. If you're doing well with one, I recommend that you leave it as your showpeice and dedicate yourself to it. They can get fairly large.

I concurr, with the entire statement.

It seems to be doing great and it is the the centerpiece of the tank. It is up on the rock which is unusual but so far it has only moved around the top piece of rock. There is a spike on the top rock and he'll move around the spike. Fully spread he is probably 8" around and he looks great. I guess you are right and I shouldn't try to jam another coral in there.
