I have heard you can only fully grow a tang in a mininum of 6ft in length tank but on SWF.com under yellow tang can be kept in a 75g. Is this just how big of tank it needs at the size you receive him or is it able to fully grow in a 4ft.
thanks

i would vernture to say you COULD keep one in there for life but hes not gonna be happy,,, a 6ft is more appropriate as they need a long swimming space. The yellow, scopas, and kole tangs dont get as large as most of the others but i still wouldnt chance it,,,

IMO a yellow tang is not the best choice for a 75 g tank.
However a yellow eye (Kole tang) IMO would be suitable..if you have a good amount of LR as they are big time grazers.

Well, I have had a yellow tang in a 75 gallon for approx 5 years. I have my rock in the center of the tank, not in the back of it, so he can have more room. No problems with him. He has grown from a baby to approx 6 in. Would I recommend one in a 75? NO. I feel that he is big enough now, but he can still grow to 9 in or so... I still may have to get rid of him if I cannot upgrade to a 125g. Sorry, just my opinion.

That's why I would not keep a kole tang in 75. They require a lot of live rock. A lot of live rock=not a lot of swimming space. However, obviously it could be done. I still would not recommend and/or do it.
Oh yeah, that's jmo.

I kept a yellow tang in a 55g tank for nearly 5 years before upgrading to a 240g...
I would say you could with a lot of room...
