Can I add another percula?

So here's the story....I have a 65G established tank. It's been up and running three years now, but due to some problems (now repaired), we have only 1 percula clownfish in it. So, my husband says "poor fish, why don't you go buy another percula?"....Off to the LFS I go, and the guy there says, "if you add another percula, since you've had the one in there so long, I can't guarentee its survival"....I was thinking I had read something like that in here, that if you add a perc to one that's been in there for a while, they may fight. Was I a fool to listen to the LFS? Please help....

The concern is that you could be adding two females together, and females would fight and one could possibly die.
I believe that what you can do is buy a small percula which will be a juvenile and will become a male after being added to your tank. Its not guaranteed even then that they will get along but the chances of success are much better. Just make sure its the same species and you should be ok.
Good luck

i added a small maroon GS clown into my 100g and i already had a slightly larger tomato that had been in their for about 2 months they fought a little at first but now they are fine, i think the size of my tank was what helped the most, 1 usually stays on 1 side and the other at the opposite end.

well I had one and added a small one to the tank, and they tore each other to pieces. I would get one of those hang on containers, the one the stores have to catch fish, or a hatchery container would even be better. I would place the "newbie" in the container, make sure there are holes, so the same water and oxygen are in the container. Make sure it's clear and they can see each other and I would leave the new one in there for awhile. How long? I don't know, but long enough where they go use to the fact they are sharing a tank, maybe a week or two??? Just a suggestion.

I think it depends on the size of the clowns and their personalities. I had a small false percula that lost his mate and I added another larger one and they accepted each other right off. The new one was twice his size, so I guess the new one will be the female. It seems like the perculas and false perculas are a bit more docile than the other clown species.
Good luck,
