Can I Clean Skimmer's Collection Cup?

Hi,
I'm wondering if it's a bad idea to clean the inside of the collection cup on a Coralife Super Skimmer? It gets a nasty green film on the inside.
Will wiping this out affect the performance of my skimmer?

I thin if you read the instructions it tells you to clean the inside of the cup. Over time it will get to be one stinking nasty piece if not cleaned each time you empty it. I rinse mine under fresh water each time I empty it, and wipe it with a paper towel.... To be honest, I think the foam slides up easier if the inside of the funnel portion is clean than it does if nasty........I have to admit, a lot of the instructions that come with those skimmers is out in left field and totally written and illustrated wrong, but at least the cleaning part is dead on the money.

I do the same. Haven't had a problems yet.
