Can I convert an old freshwater tank into a sea horse tank?

I have a very old 30 gallon freshwater tank. It is a tall hexagon tank. It has the oldschool filtration (undergravel filter). Can I convert this into a sea horse tank? What would I need as far as filtration is concerned?

a 30 hex should be fine for a pair of horses. The hard part is the aquascaping. Tonga branch works well, but its hard to come by.
As far as filteration, take out the undergravel filter, and add either a hob or canister. you can do both, turning the hob into a fuge. You should also add an open air line. No air stone.

Pictures of the tank??
What species were you thinking of. You could do fuscus, barbs, erectus - Reidi might be pushing it for size.

Also...make sure you sanitize the tank. Has it been empty? If so, when you are sanitizing it...since you have to fill it up...leave it for a little while and check for leaks.

No, it is in my old classroom housing cichlids. I left it for the kids when I quit my job to be a mom. The end of the school year is coming, and I have to go pick up my stuff. I was just thinking about what I could do with that tank. I was thinking about refinishing it and turning it into a sea horse tank. I haven't done any research on which type of horses I would get. Do they require any special lighting? How do you sanitize the tank?

WELLLLL...since I just did this with a 29 rectangle

First I rinsed it really good...then I filled it with water and bleach....let it soak for a few hours
then I emptied and rinsed REAL GOOD...filled it back up with dechlorinator..let it sit for a few hours.
Then...I emptied again...RINSED REALLY GOOD ....again
Now it has SW, Sand, and just added LR last night

OH...They don't require special lighting like corals do.

This would be a very fun project. you could even do a foam and live rock background or I just saw one some where--where they used a pvc pipe and attached the live rock to it to make a neat sculpture in the middle. I have seen some really nice base rock that would work well.

All you need is regular florecent lights unless you want to add corals to the tank
