I have a rather mean Coral Banded shrimp.. Over time its pretty much killed off any other shrimp that i've had in the tank. The only ones that seem to fair well are aptasia eating peppermint shrimp, Probably because they hide all day long. Do the pistol shrimp wander around the aquarium a lot or do they basically hang out in their hole. Also would an orange spotted goby be a good pair for one possibly?

Any watchman goby, shrimp goby, etc is good for a pairing, however, get them together, or they may not pair. I bought a Yasha Goby paired with a Randalli Pistol Shrimp and the minute they got in my tank, they chose different burrows.
I rarely ever see my pistols (I have two) in my tank and it's only a 14G. They almost never leave their burrows, and when I asked others that own one about this in my thread, they all said they rarely see theirs as well.
It is really cool to hear them snap though!
One last thing: If you already own the goby, make sure the shrimp isn't so small that the goby thinks its food!

hmm... if it stays hidden i'll probably be ok getting one. My CBS usually stays in its little cave and once in a while will wonder behind all my LR to the far sides of the tank, but it never wanders in the open. I wonder what kind of luck i would have if i try making an artifitial burrow for a pistol shrimp out of some kind of PCV that i could slice in half and put against the glass. Then i could see it whenever i wanted

That might work. My one made me destroy the back intake of my tank to get him out, he still lives in there, but at least now he won't die. Look what he did:

There used to be a grate there that made it the bottom half of my intake!
