Can I put a sump/Refuge on the basement floor.

When I get my larger tank I am thinking of drilling holes through my floor (of the upstairs) into the basement. This way all my plumbing will be one floor below. Would this work if I got a reef ready tank? Would the pumps be strong enough to pump up one floor?

Very doable, there are a few people on here who have this kind of setup.

Both my reef set ups are done the way you describe. Both have a Hammerhead return pump. NO pump problems for the almost three years I have had them up and running. The plumbing is not that complex.

Just out of courisousity (man I need to spell better) how much room do you leave for back flow if the power goes out. Not saying what you do is wrong just wanting to learn in case the question comes up sometime and you dont respond
I live in florida so basement not a good idea (i dont have one)

I would love to know that too. I have a lot of questions but if and when I get my larger tank I will do it. I have the perfect setup for it.
