Can I put this in my tank?

I just ran accross a piece of what looks like some type of coral skeleton. I think my mom bought it as some type of ornament years ago. It has lots of cool branches and seems like it could be a cool piece of live rock. I was thinking of boiling it and putting it in my tank. Would this cause any problems?

Welcome to the boards. There are many that put these pieces in their set ups, but they will turn a very nasty looking green color thats really unatractive. I have heard of people putting them in the dishwasher to clean them too, with light soap/no soap and running an extra rinse cycle. In this case it would never be "live rock" because you will kill it everytime you have to clean it. Hope that helps.

Don't mean to hijack but I have a question on the same subject. I have some drift wood that I collected at the river for my fw tank I was wondering if I could use it in my sw tank for decor and hiding spots. If so what would I need to do to clean it before puting it in the tank?

The Only Problem With Something Like This Is That Some Pieces Maybe Soaked Or
Sprayed With Chemicals Which May Or May Not Affect The Fish..
