My firefish started breathing heavy today, ive had him over 2 weeks now, I watched him eat like a pig at the lfs. I did not qt him because I honestly dont have the funds to start up 2 sw tanks at the same time.
my firefish hides at the very very bottom of the tank, where there is no power heads, could he possibly just not be gettimg enough oxygen? He eats fine, but I cant get cant get a close enough look at his gills to see if theres anything wrong with them
Anyway, can inverts get gill flukes or will they be safe? And IF it is gill flukes, which im not even sure if thats what it is, does it infect the LR so any fish I put in catches it too?

Inverts can not contract flukes. Possible for them to carry it, but not "get" it.
Marine Flukes, affects more then just a fish's gills. Usually signs of flukes are cloudy fins, cloudy eyes, and scratching, or unusually twitchy behavior. Flukes tends to infect larger sometimes less harder fish, Large Angels, Butterflyfish, Xanthichthys triggerfish, etc. This would be the first I've heard of a firefish with flukes....
Labored/heavy breathing is not typically a sign of flukes. I would start looking into low oxygen like you mentioned, or other causes.

Okay, I will try the natural route first & try to get more oxygen in his cave. Should I put one of my powerheads toward the middle/bottom of the tank or do they have to be at the top for the exchange of oxygen to take place?
my gph is 17x my tank volume, if I move one ph down lower and away from the water surface, does it still oxygenate the water properly?
