looks like a colt but I cant find anything on the purple color excpet on the auction site. I am curious if maybe this is a dyed colt coral which isnt unheard of.
maybe someone else can say weither or not that there is a actual purple colt coral.

I was thinking the same thing about it being dyed. I seen alot of that lately/ Especially on livestock with no labels.

I have also been seeing alot of false colors corals in the past weeks so its hard to say.
Colts DO grow in nice colors of pinks and purples like shown. Hopefully this is just purple by nature. Nice specimen.

the only thing that makes me believe it is not died... is the fact that its not one solid color... it has deep purple tips and then it goes white to pink... its not at all one solid color...They had another one at the lfs that was more white and just a touch of pink to it... this ones colors just seemed more vibrant..

actually that could show signs of it being dyed because the color will eventually start to fade out and start to get its original color back. That why so many people are disapointed when they buy something one color and a few months later its changeing colors.
ask the LFS where its origin is from or see if they can find out from their suppliers.

I contacted the lfs i bought it from and they swore it is just a very colorful pink cladiella... which yes would be a pink colt after i researched it... they said the get them in every once in a while and this one was a little more rare due to its purple tips... so i guess i just hope for the best and the color wont fade...

Good way to test if it is dyed or not.....my skimmer sucked out yellow dye for about a week when I bought a yellow figi leather that was definately dyed....way too bright. A newbe mistake with corals, saltwater tanks with fish only are one thing reef tanks are quite another thing. The good thing is that it survived the ordeal and is happy living in my tank today...3 years later. Good luck with it. The picture enclosed is of it now, I didn't now about this site then....sure wish I had.

Looks like a Strawberry Coral/Pink Cauliflower (Scleronephthya)
Doesn't like direct flow. It has to be feed because it does not contain symbiotic algae.
Sorry, I don't know how to post a photo but it looks just like mine.

Is this literal? Do the stores really inject dye into these corals, or did I just pull a Jessica Simpson,......

Occasionally some more disreputable sellers will dip dye corals. they antagonize the coral to close up(expeeling most of the water in it) place it into the dye and as the coral reinflated the dye is sucked in and it can take quite a while for the dye to fade and the coral sometimes dies from this.

I thought they were injected, but that sounds like a good way to do it... if it were a good idea to dye a coral...

While it is not a scleronepthyia many of them come in that same colorl. I had one. Switched to LPS. It is probably a colt, and they do come in that color. RARE. Hope its real. Good pic
