i have sponges in a 55 empty with a few branching lr not emough to make alow light area...should i just leave the light off..algae will grow on the sponge if i leave the light on or leave it off but then when i get fish and turn the light on the sponges might get acclimation lighting shock.

i have my sponge in the light and has been there since i got it, they will make adjuments to themselves as needed, as for die off and algea on it i have a hermit that use it as a ride and pushes it in front of the powerhead and climbs on it and holds on for dear life, but he also take care of it.

lights will stay on for 8 hours a day cf 260 watts...however I dont not have any inverts in this tank.. as i might need to use copper or hypo if they get diseased...perhaps a LMB might work out if i have any algae problems..can algae hurt sponges ? sometimes if i see white stuff on them i hold them under the water from the base rock and shake them gentely until it comes off this has worked for me in the past. thanks
