can this harm my fish?

i just got my first few fish 3 days ago i was observing them for those few days and notice that my aquascape wasnt realy the proper setting so i just decided to redo it as i was doing it my lr started kicking up the sand and letting out a lot of brown stuff my rocks and ccsand looked kinda rusty lookking so as i was moving the rocks out i was cleaning the sand i took out about 15% of water cleaned the sand and did another setup can this harm my fish i have a clown trigger kole tang and 2 chromis also do you know what that rusty look was thank for reply

It sounds as though you added a lot of fish for the intial setup to begin with. A clown trigger, kole tang, and chromis do not sound like a good setup. Stirring up the tank can be a problem as well. i would suggest that you slow down, and do a little more research before you add any more fish.

I have to respectfully disagree with stacy a little. Stirring up the dirt on the rock is a good way of insuring detritus doesn't build up in it. It doesn't have to be done daily but should be done whenever you do a water change. Ideally that should be once a month.... It won't hurt the fish at all and will usually clear up in a few minutes. I do it all the time :) If you ever get corals its a good way to feed them too, or stimulate them to feed....
EDIT: sorry the rusty stuff is diatoms/cyanobacteria and will either clear up on its own or spread like wildfire. You must get your nitrates and phosphates in check sooner rather than later or it will expload on you. It will also help if you have a high water flow in the tank as the stuff roots in low flow areas.

i had checked all my nitrates ph everything was perfect this rusty stuff was on the sand i cleaned that off and it is on som of my lr wich i did not touch because my kole tang keeps eating off of it not sure if that a good thing or not as far as flow in the tank i have a pond master 950 plus i have a maxi jet 300 on the other side of the tank so there is a good flow i did not want any still parts in my tank thanks all still learning
