Can wet/dry become refugium?

Does anyone know, or has anyone tried to make the bio-ball chamber into a fuge? If so, how do you do it. I have a CPR 194. It has 3 chambers (4 if you include the skimmer). It has a chamber that the water first comes into, then goes thru the skimmer, then overflows into bio-ball chamber than into return chamber where return pump is.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Several people have. Remove the bio-balls, add live sand or mineral mud, place in some live rock, add macro algae and lights, etc.

i have a wet and dry set up and i put live sand algae in the sump section. been working great for me and plenty of pods and growth
