Okay, Having problems with my Hippo who got ick today (my fault turns out). Here is the thread I started earlier https://www.saltwaterfish.com/vb/showthread.php?t=172097
So SPECIFICALLY what do I do now? :notsure: I do not have QT tank. I'm really super frustrated with this whole fish thing and am ready to throw in the towel. I'm frustrated that I can't get the same answer twice. I cannot believe that EVERYONE does this differently. I'm freaked that after 6 months of talking to everyone at every LFS NO ONE has mentioned a QT tank. And I'm frustrated that I've relied on LFS for info...stupid.
okay rant over...
So please help. I have the following in my tank.
2 percula clowns
1 ick infected hippo tang
2 sand stars
about 6 turbo snails
about 6 (finding somedead now all of a sudden :( ) hermit crabs
50 lbs of LV
1 feather duster
1 anenome
Can I move everything into a make shift rubber maid QT (except the anenome) and treat the display tank with hypo?
What about the feather duster and stars?
Ick showed up today - how long do I have before even more damage is done? (I read beth's FAQ but honestly it left me even more confused. But then I'm tired and frustrated)
If my LFS can't babysit the aneome what do I do with it?
Or AND I DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS BUT THINKING OUTLOUD do I sacrafice the hippo in an effort to save the rest of the tank...

Seriously, I just need some clear help/answers about THIS situation. The more I ask, the more I read, the more confused I get and the less I understand about this hobby.

4 skunk cleaner shrimp will take care of that ich worked for me twice. even had him in a qt for 3 months a every time i stopped treatment a week later there it is again,so I was giving up threw them both back in the reef to enjoy thier last days of life and then decided to go get more shrimp just to see what would happen, brought 2 more shrimp already had 2 and the four of them saved my yellow tang and my hippo been I dont no how many months now and they are all great. good luck with what ever you do. oh yea baby shrimp are more aggressive eaters and it is easy for them to ride the fish, fish would shake the big ones right off.

This is the 2nd or 3rd time I've heard this one technique. I'm new, so will sit back and ride the flow of conversations this will spike. Ha!
Scully, There are several ppl out there that are VERY experienced and you will quickly learn whom to listen to.

Yeah...everyone's got their own way. It's the most frustrating thing about this hobby. And well I suppose like raising children, there isn't only ONE right way and everything else is WRONG.
But, honestly, I'm looking for the most probable
way of fixing this problem. I'm so close to quitting that one or two more murdered fish because I listened to someone who (turns out) had an unstandard way of doing something will send me over the edge.
So I'll sit here and wait for my exact question to be answered :)

Get a rubbermaid container like the 35 gallon one, a powerhead, and a heater. Fille th rubber main 1/3 of the wate with water from your display.
Put the fish in it, monitor the water carefully. Slowly over a few days time add fresh water (i'd just drip it in) (not salt water) to it and bring the salinity to 1.009, You will need a refractometer as well (you should have one anyway to test your salinity).
Also check your PH and have appropiate PH Buffer, as the salinity drops, so will your PH buffering capibilites.
Leave the rest in your display, they cannot get ich and the ICH should die by the time your treatment is done.
After 4 weeks
remove 2/3's of water from container
Slowly drip in Salt water and bring the salinity to what your tank is over a few days.
Wallaaa You now have an Ich free environment.
Keep in the container for 4 weeks, sucks...but better than dieing.

I've been dealing with this as well. I've got a Flame Angel that gets the spots every once in a while. None of my other fish have been infected. I set up a QT. I also did a water change on the display and used that water in the QT. I also added fresh water as well with the correct amount of salt of course. I was going to add the flame, but he only had the spots for a day. So I waited. The QT has been running. I've got a little filter on it and a power head. I through in a small piece of dead LR, and some fake plants. I put a coral back drop behind it too. It looks pretty good. I didn't put any substrate though. Yesterday evening I noticed a few spots on him with just the antics on. So I thought after I get off work I'd go ahead and move him to the QT. I got home and they were gone. It a funny little game I'm playing right now. I don't know if he's getting strong and fighting the ich, my cleaner is cleaning the ich off or what. We'll see how it plays out. For my advice...everyone has told me the same thing. Your best results will come from isolateing him in a QT and lower the salenity like sw65galma said above. There is also a good read about this in FAQs stuck at the top of this forum. Good Luck. I know it sux.
