I,ve removed my crushed coral and under-gravel filter(I know its about time!) and added a sand bed. I used Carribean Agranite. Its been two days and my water is still murky, real murky..I can,t see in it at all. My question is how can I git rid of this cloudy water? Could I change out more water and try that? Any suggestions would help.
I realy need to git my live stock back in...

What you got for a filter now? Try adding a pre filter to remove the sedament,or shut it all down till it settles then vac the substrate, and top it back off. I'd go slow adding the stock back in, The tank most likly will recycle........STEVE

once I stupidly put a crushed coral base in a tank I was setting up and didn't rince it. bad idea, I didn't think it would ever clear up. I told my lfs guy and he loaned me a hot magnum filter and I hung that on the tank for a few days and that cleared it up.

how much water did you replace? some of the cloud may be salt.when the cloud disapates make sure you reintroduce your stock like you would if they were brand new ... no sence in shocking them any more Good luck

Some extra mechanical filtering would help, although it should settle on it's own after a while. The trick I think would be to not stir it up any more, remember you won't vacuum your sand like you did the gravel, and I guess I would make sure no powerheads or filter outputs are towards the bottom. I too once used crushed coral without enough rinsing--YUCK. Oh Well live and learn right guys!

Hi,
the same thing happended to me when I put my sand bed in, don't worry about it at all, it won't do you any harm.
If you've ever seen a coastal reef after a storm, then you'll know that murky water is a completely natural, cyclical thing, that you do not need to worry about in the slightest, it will settle down itself after 5 days or so.
Regards,
Tom
