I have 2 greens (lost one awhile ago) and they are fighting. My LFS only has blues, can I substitute a blue in the greens ones place to stop the fighting, or do they have to be same color to achieve peace?

Chromis are damselfish, so odds are if you put different colors in the tank they will duke it out. I never understand why fish get along at the pet store but start a war as soon as you bring them home though.

With just 2, they fight for dominance, so I wanted 1 more, wanted to get a blue one, since that is what my lfs carries, now I am not sure that would work, the 2 greens might fight with the 1 blue.

I had two striped, two domino, and three yellow-tail damsels plus three blue-green chromis: After about five weeks of coflict, which I didn't anticipate, I have three yellow-tails and two chromis... Everything seems fine now. I think.

chromis are a schooling fish you should keep them in groups of at least 6. I have blue and green ones (14 total) with no problems in a 150 reef. Yes they are damsels but the chromis are peaceful. yelowtail, 3 strip or domino damels should not be kept in community tanks they are very aggressive. They are good for nothing but cycling a new tank and then should be gotten rid of. They are hard to kill hence why the are sold to beginner saltwaterest.

I broke the General RULE !!!
I have a pair!! instead of 3's
I have 1 yellow tail w/blue damsel and later added a stripped.
The blue damsel is the bully and the stripped damsel just runs away!! Maybe I should add another damsel so maybe the stripe and the new damsel can gang up on the bully yellow tail!!

Puffer -- I wish i could send you a green
chromis!! the lfs here has a whole tank full!
Could you visit your lfs and say you buy one and he doesnt get along and he gets picked on, see if you could bring him back and if they would credit you? I know it would be alot of time - acclimating it and then OPPS -- this would be the problem --- > catching the little bugga!!! Scrap this idea!!
oh --- I got it.. you say tha you have 2 aggressive like chromis --- well observe the behavior of the damsel you would be getting (if you do decide to go with the new color) and choose one based on you observing the behavior for 3 mins or so.
I dont know.. these ideas may be just an attempt to think :notsure: outside of the box :hilarious :joy:
Oh well, I tried!!!

I was able to get another green chromis right here on SW.Com. Of course to get the free shipping I had to spend 79.00. Not that it was hard LOL! Shipment is acclaimating right now. Got the green chromis, a chalk basslet, blue eyed anthias green polp, sally lightfoot and a fridmani. All small, so not to much of a bioload at once.
