If the dead coral is white it will not stay that way for long. Plus you will have to be concerned about how it was handled ie. bleached etc.
if it is pourus and calcium based it should do fine and you should have coralline form on it as well. i have 30lbs lr and 30lbs of the dead coral and it does fine
