The skimmer will skim out the dissolved organics. Trace elements can go with it. The removal of trace elements due to over skimming is minimal. Do routine water changes and you will be fine. IMO over skimming is much better than under skimming

try that in a sponge/gorgonian tank, or a non photosynthetic tank and you'll find underskimming is far better than overskimming.
