Can you Re-Use used water?

I want to fill two 5 gallon jugs with water from my tank to use for water changes on my trip.
Can you do that or will there be issues? If I can do this, how long can that water stay in the jugs? I have copods in my tank and Im worried that if their sitting in those jugs they will cause an ammonia problem or something.

Well my thoughts on it is they you wouldn't really be doing a water change. If you are just taking it out and putting it back in (some time or other) you won't have all of the stuff that is in freshly made saltwater. Plus it might have amm.rite.rates in it. About the copopods things I didn't know they were water colum difters.

No, don't bottle tank water to use at a later date. That's like water that is left in a chiller... OMG! that stuff is the foulest funk you ever did smell.

this maybe off topic so sorry if its a high-jakc but i as thinkign about this the other day. if you took water out of the tank and placed it in another tank with LR & LS and no inhabitants and with a small filter or PH for flow, couldnt you theoretically "recycle" water?

no the trace elements and such would still be depleted from the water. water changes do more than to reduce nitrogenous waste. all you would be doing is allowing the microfauna and other cryptic organisms to further deplete the trace elements.
